It would be hard to write a worse offseason for New York Giants defensive star Jason Pierre-Paul. Going into a contract year, JPP burned his hands badly trying to light fireworks during a Fourth of July celebration.
According to reports, Giants have taken a long-term contract worth $60 million off the table, and it is unclear whether he will be signing his $14 million franchise tag contract either. Not only that, it’s not clear whether or not he will be ready for the start of the season and no one knows how long he will be out just yet.
And on top of all that, Florida police are investigating the incident, since it’s illegal to buy and use fireworks in Florida, and the star defensive end could be facing criminal charges and fines as well. Giants officials and trainers are expected to head down to Florida this week to meet with the two-time ProBowler and learn more about the extent of his injuries.
