The levels at which Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors has been playing this year are not only historically significant; they are starting to border on ridiculous. He has been breaking records left and right this year and his advanced numbers are making his 2015-16 campaign one of the greatest any player has ever had in the league. This is including Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan. And that is saying something.
In case you had access to electricity this weekend, you probably already know about Curry’s insane performance in Oklahoma City where he led his team to an overtime victory in one of the best NBA games this season. It was truly a spectacular matchup, with both teams coming out shooting, exchanging blows for the entire duration of the game and a whole bunch of players posting insane numbers.
For instance, Kevin Durant had 37 points, 12 rebound and 5 assists while Russell Westbrook had 26 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists. Serge Ibaka had 15 points and 20 rebounds. For the Warriors, Klay Thompson had 32 points despite going only 2-of-9 from the three. But still, they all paled in comparison to the MVP who had 46 points on only 24 shots. More amazingly than anything, he shot 12-of-16 from the three point line.
Just in case your math is not so great, that’s 75 percent from the 3-point line! And he shot 16 times! That’s paradigm shifting. That is also the most threes any player ever scored in a single game. He also broke his own “total threes in a season” record during the game, but that almost feels insignificant. It feels insignificant because of the last shot of the game, the game-winner.
It went something like this. With 5 seconds to go in the overtime, Curry gets the ball. Kerr doesn’t call a timeout. Curry strolls to OKC half, stops at about 38 FEET FROM THE BASKET and just lets one go. He makes it. The Warriors win it.
It’s like watching a video game in cheat mode.
After the shot, a slew of NBA players went to Twitter to share their thoughts about the shot, from LeBron James to Kristaps Porzingis, from Dwyane Wade to Aaron Gordon.
@StephenCurry30 needs to stop it man!! He’s ridiculous man! Never before seen someone like him in the history of ball!
