It was made official on Thursday that Boston would be the home of the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. According to a statement from the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), the decision was unanimous and that Boston presented the strongest resume of all the bidding cities.
Boston has never hosted the Olympics. In fact, the only finalist that had prior experience hosting the games is Los Angeles. The city hosted the games twice, in 1932 and in 1984.
It’s a nice win for American sports. The country has been trying to get a major international sporting event to its shores for quite a while now and has not had much success in doing so. New York City tried to get the 2012 Summer Olympics to be held there but ended up losing the bid. And the United States also tried to get the 2022 World Cup to take place in America, but the final decision was made that the games would be held in Qatar.
