NBA players are known by the particular number worn on the jerseys. When they retire, often their jersey is claimed by another up and coming star. However, some jerseys are retired to honor the outstanding player who wore it. The following spotlights six such NBA jerseys.
1. Celtics Number 33
Larry Bird, the Indiana native, proudly wore the Boston Celtics uniform and sported number 33 until his retirement in 1992. The jersey 33 was officially retired during a two-hour ceremony held at Boston Garden on a non-game night, and the spectacular event was sold out; even Magic Johnson came to celebrate.
